Spill Buddy Portable Product Skimming Pump
The Spill BuddyTM is a compact, manually operated, floating petroleum product (LNAPL) pump, which uses sensors based on proven Spill BusterTM technology. The Spill Buddy can also be used to remove heavier-than-water (DNAPL) contaminants. The Spill Buddy is used to determine the product / water interface and to pump small quantities of LNAPL, water or DNAPL.

The Spill Buddy Pro is a combination of a manually operated product pump and an interface probe. This system is used to measure the "depth-to-product" and "depth-to-water" in test wells. The integrated measuring tape and audible feedback allows the user to determine the thickness of the product layer. Once the measurements are recorded, the operator can pump the product from the well by activating a small switch, located on the reel assembly. Pumped product is discharged through a hose on the back side of the reel assembly, into a collection container.

Use of the Spill Buddy and Spill Buddy Pro systems is relatively cost effective, when compared to the traditional method of product recovery from groundwater monitoring wells. Traditionally, product has been recovered by using a hand- bailing device. This requires the collection of groundwater, in addition to the product. The contaminated water then is treated as hazardous waste and must be disposed of accordingly. Hand-bailing is also very time consuming. Use of the Spill Buddy and Spill Buddy Pro to remove free phase contamination from groundwater monitoring wells is relatively quick and easy.

Spill Buddy and Spill Buddy Pro are based on patented ALPHA-ARRAYTM sensors on the probe that detect the interface between the product and the water. The audible feedback allows the user to determine the water surface and allows product skimming.

The compact probe with enclosed pump easily fits into wells as small as 2" in diameter. The rugged lightweight, and convenient Spill Buddy can skim up to 0.7 gallons of product per minute. Spill Buddy also has a self contained, rechargeable battery for the sensor electronics and pump. The battery is rechargeable from a 12 VDC source (car battery or cigarette lighter socket-optional) or the wall transformer provided with the unit. Spill Buddy will operate for up to one hour of continous pumping. (approx. 40 gallons) per charge.

The Spill Buddy Pro is physically identical to the Spill Buddy and can skim up to 0.35 gallons of product per minute. The Spill Buddy Pro will operate for up to one hour of continuous pumping (approx. 21 gallons) per charge.

Magnum Spill Buster
The Magnum Spill BusterTM is an advanced product pumping system for installation in 2" or larger diameter wells. The system is specifically designed to recover free phase petroleum contamination (LNAPL) from the water table. It can also be used to recover free phase DNAPL contamination. The 1.93" diameter probe contains a small but powerful 12vdc electric product pump, as well as the patented Alpha-ArrayTM interface sensors.

The Alpha-Array interface sensors are a multiple field array, all solid state, monolithic, noncontact, fluid-interface sensor that is a spin-off of spacecraft fuel gauging developed for NASA. The use of this interface sensor in the environmental industry is unique. Since it is a noncontact sensor, it is highly immune to fouling, which is a problem with virtually all other types of sensing methods (including conductive, float, optical and even radio frequency methods.

The Magnum Spill Buster Control Box coordinates and displays the condition of the system operation. The control box also allows certain system parameters to be varied and provides an RS-485 communications port for connection to up to 31 other units and a personal computer (PC) up to 3,000 ft. away.

The Auto Seeker is a small motorized reel assembly located at the top of the wellhead. It automatically raises and lowers the probe to follow the product interface and is only limited by the length of the cable. This makes the system operation highly efficient even with large changes in the level of the ground water. The cable fully reels onto the Auto Seeker allowing the system to freely operate in a vault as small as 24" x 24" x 22" deep.

FEATURES
Low profile Auto Seeker motorized reel system allows
installation in smaller well head spaces and prevents cable
tangling
The system can be used with "floaters" (LNAPLs) or
"sinkers" (DNAPLs) with a minor adjustment to the control
box
Water depression can be added to the system with our
Water Depression Module and water pump
New "slimline" connectors for the cable ends which are
extremely rugged and easy to clean
Plastic enclosure with connector "pouch" which provide easy ccess to the cables, adjustable controls and AC wiring
True 24 VDC battery/solar panel operation even for deep
wells
