The
2020 sets a new standard for laboratory accuracy
in an extremely compact, portable instrument for
turbidity measurement.
A
multi-detector optical configuration assures
long term stability and minimizes stray light
and color interferences. All readings are determined
by the process of signal averaging over a 5
second period. This minimizes fluctuations in
readings attributed to large particles and results
in rapid, highly repeatable measurements.
FEATURES
Field & Lab Use - Supplied with a 9 volt
alkaline battery
and an AC power adapter (Order Code 1773) -
the 2020 is an ideal choice for regulatory monitoring,
process water
testing, and environmental water analysis in
the field or
laboratory.
EPA Compliant - This nephelometric turbidity
instrument
meets or exceeds EPA design specifications for
NPDWR
and NPDES turbidity monitoring programs as specified
by USEPA method 180.1. There is also an EPA
compliance
reading mode which rounds the reading to meet
EPA
reporting requirements.
Micro Processor Based - RANGE: 0 to 1100 NTUs.
The microprocessor enables auto-ranging over
the full range of 0 to 1100 nephelometric turbidity
units (NTUs) and provides direct digital readout
with a resolution of 0.01 for the lowest range
with an accuracy of ±2%.
Easy to Operate & Calibrate - The simple
calibration
procedure involves activating the t or s keys
until the reading matches the standard. The
microprocessor adjusts the factory programmed
calibration curve accordingly. Two primary turbidity
standards are provided.
European CE Mark - The 2020 has been independently
tested and has earned the European CE Mark of
compliance for electromagnetic compatibility
and safety.
RS-232 Interface - An RS-232 port is provided
to
interface with a datalogger or computer. Optional
cable
available, Order Code 1772.
A Great Value - Attractively priced, the 2020
Portable
Turbidity Meter comes with AC adapter, four
optically
selected sample vials with screw caps, standardization
package consisting of 1.0 NTU (Order Code 1476)
and
10.0 NTU (Order Code 1477) AMCOTM standards,
and an illustrated instruction manual, all in
a sturdy carrying case.

Laboratory-grade
performance, in the field The 2100P Portable
Turbidimeter combines microprocessor- controlled
operation and Hach's patented Ratio optics
to bring greater accuracy, sensitivity and reliability
to field testing. The two-detector optical system
compensates for color in the sample, light fluctuation
and stray light, allowing analysts to achieve
laboratory-grade performance on a wide range of
samples, under a wide range of conditions.
PRINCIPLE
OF OPERATION
The 2100P Turbidimeter features a unique optical
design that incorporates signal ratioing. Light
is focused into a narrow beam and passed through
the sample. The 90° scatter detector receives
light scattered by particles in the sample.
The transmitted light detector receives light
that passes through the sample. The signal output
of the 2100P is a ratio (based on an algorithm)
of the two detectors. By measuring both 90°
scattered light and transmitted light, the 2100P
compensates for background color, light fluctuations
or dust and haze on the optics. Electronically
conditioning these signals results in excellent
linearity, color rejection and calibration stability.
Signal
averaging The 2100P also features a selectable
signal averaging mode, which compensates for
fluctuations in readings caused by large particles
drifting through the light path. Signal averaging
eliminates the noise by averaging multiple readings
over a period of time and displaying the averaged
signal.
Calibration and standardization Calibration
of the
2100P Portable Turbidimeter is based on formazin,
the
accepted primary standard for turbidity measurement.
For
convenient routine verification, Hach supplies
Gelex (R)
Secondary Standards (metal oxide particles locked
in gel)
formulated to simulate formazin. When checked
periodically against formazin, these secondary
standards are a simple and accurate means of
checking instrument calibration.
Built-in diagnostics The diagnostic mode
is accessible
with one key stroke. This mode allows the operator
to
obtain information about operating parameters
that can help evaluate instrument functions.
The 2100P Portable
Turbidimeter is supplied with all necessary
testing apparatus, an instrument/procedure manual
and a durable carrying case.
Electronic zero When the READ key is
pressed, the
2100P Portable Turbidimeter automatically zeros
the
instrument, compensating for stray light and
electronic and optical offsets. No manual adjustment
is required.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
Calculations eliminated The 2100P Turbidimeter
provides direct digital readout in nephelometric
turbidity units (NTUs), completely eliminating
the need for calculations or interpolation of
calibration charts.
Greater sensitivity With a measurement
range of 0 to
1000 NTU and resolution to 0.01 NTU, the 2100P
is ideal for regulatory monitoring, process
control or field studies. Choose one of three
manual range modes (0 to 9.99, 0 to 99.9 and
0 to 1000 NTU) or automatic range mode for measuring
samples that vary widely in turbidity.
Outstanding field performance The light-weight
2100P Portable Turbidimeter comes field ready
with four AA alkaline batteries (optional battery
eliminator available), all necessary apparatus,
and a rugged carrying case. The instrument itself
weighs less than 0.45 kg (1 lb). The complete
analytical package (including case, apparatus
and instructions) weighs just under 2.73 kg
(7 lbs).
Minimal training required Because the
2100P Portable Turbidimeter is so easy to use,
personnel can get accurate results even with
little training. Each instrument is supplied
with a complete instruction manual to guide
you step by step through calibration, testing
and maintenance procedures. Also included is
information on sampling and measuring technique,
and a quick reference card to save time during
daily operation.
